Catsitting Sometimes Does Require Sitting

Yes, catsitting does sometimes involve sitting. Yesterday, I sat on the couch until Arjun came up to me and demanded attention. Ashok watched from under the dining table. I don't think he approves of Arjun's behaviour. In the meanwhile, I had been playing Rayman II. Oh, yes, very interesting game where Rayman and the rabbids start off eating from a vat of chili.

Before I left for the day, Arjun meowed at me and motioned for me to follow him. He lead me to the master bathroom where he reminded me that I forgot refresh his water dish that day. I washed it out and filled it with fresh water and placed it on the floor. Arjun sniffed his approval but left it alone. I left the room, and spied on him while he returned to drink from the dish. Cats I tell ya.

Also, I am sure the cats know how to open closet doors. Disturbing.

Coming soon: the Arjun gallery.

Hungry cats make for Strange cats

I forgot my camera, so no photo update today.

I think the kitties were really hungry tonight. Arjun was super-purry and he let me pick him up. He then started to make Donald Duck noises. Ashok couldn't decide which bowl to eat out of, so nibbled from each, pawed at the ground as if burying something, then ran away.

Where are my People?

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

Arjun sure misses his people. He kneads the ground when I pet him. I had to bribe Ashok with treats so he'll let me pet him, but only until Arjun came into the room and wondered where his share of the treats were.

The cats have changed a little since I last was here -- Ashok no longer paws at the window, but he still enjoys playing inside plastic bags. Arjun still loves to discover high places in the house, the newest one being the towel rack in the newly renovated bathroom.

Portuguese Cats

On Thursday night, the cats ran to the door, probably wondering why their people where home so late night. After letting me pet them a bit and play with them (Arjun seems to still enjoy chasing a point of laser light), they seemed to have figured out that their people have gone away again for a while. They have resumed their coolness, and remain out of sight. At times, I wonder if they somehow escaped, as there is no sign of them.

Cats' Favourite Games

Ashok's favourite game is 'Stare at Human from Other Side of Glass Door' while Arjun prefers 'Bat at Dangling Bell to Get Human's Attention'.

We Want Food

There was lots of food in the bowls last night, so I didn't give them their nighttime snack. However, both cats sat, crouched and waiting in the bedroom for me to get up. As soon as I moved towards the hall, they dashed to the kitchen, where I found them waiting in front of empty bowls.

Bad Cat

Ashok no longer gives me the 'don't touch me' look when I pet him, and even crinkled the plastic around his basket to get my attention and say "Hey, look at me! Aren't I cute?"

Later, I heard a persistent meow comming from the bedroom. That meow came from Arjun, who was standing on TOP of the closet door! I'm not sure how he got there as it would have required a 5 foot jump up into a space 1 foot high. He then started purring, which I originally believed to mean that he wanted help down, but now I realized it was a self-satisfied "I'm so proud of myself" purr. Warrior-like indeed.

I heard rustling sounds throughout the night, and awoke to find a box knocked off the top of the armoir. I'm not sure how I managed to sleep though it crashing to the ground, but I have no doubt as to which kitty did it.

Cat-Sitting Redux

Rest assured, cat-sitting does not involve any sitting on any cats whatsoever. Cats are involved, yes, sitting is optional, but does occur.

Off to a bad start:
Some time on Friday afternoon, I remembered that I needed the alarm code. Checked an old email, and found it. Then about 5pm (about when Chris and Nancy's flight left), I had the dreadful thought that maybe they changed the alarm code! I packed an overnight bag to take with me to work, thinking I'll head over to the Waterhouse right after skiing. Then I realized I left the key at home. Called the neighbours: thankfully they were home -- saved me a drive out to New West and back.

The plants in the planter aren't doing that great...will have to remember that pansies and tulips need more sun that what you get between houses. The pansies are actually very healthy, but they have no flowers. The tulips are super long floppy leaves.

The cats seem to remember me -- they don't run and hide, but came up to stare at me. It was very cute. Arjun sure wanted attention. Ashok lay on the sheets after I turned the bed covers down. He complained when I picked him up to put him next to Arjun at the foot of the bed, but stayed long enough to make a nice foot warmer.

Dancing Cats

Oh how much fun it is to play dancing cats!

Here's a song:
Ashok and Arj
Arjun and Ash
Arj Arj Arj
Ash Ash Ash
The Ashok and Arjun shooow!

(to the tune of the Itchy and Scratchy theme)

Hmm...no more sugar for me.

The amenities

The microwave is just so polite. When it stops, the screen prompts me to "enjoy" my meal. Wow.

Also, Chris did say make myself at home. I was hungry. Hmm...a can of Pringles. I'll just have one. Doh! Ugh. And why oh WHY did Nancy have to leave those Girl Guide cookies?!?

Mental note: must remember to make the bed, or else Arjun will sleep on the exposed pillow.

Day 15

Hmm...I found a mousie in the water dish this morning. What could it mean? I think it is a sign of protest. Why else would Ashok or Arjun drown a precious? Do they want fresh water, more food? They always want more food. Maybe their bed needs to be fluffed? Litter box cleaned? What, what, what?
